Description of the project:The SUMO project - Sustainable Use of Oilseed Processing Biomass, aims to develop different, but complementary, recovery routes for the sustainable use of the main by-products of oil seed processing. The expected result is the design of several alternatives of biorefinery units adaptable to current biomass processing and consumption sites in participating countries, where the oilseed processing sector is very important. The alternatives will be flexible enough to process plant processing by-products, finding synergies with other complementary waste generated nearby. The recovery paths to be developed include the use of biomass and its biofuel and energy components for human consumption and animal feed.
Objectives:- Develop an inventory and diagnosis of waste generated by oilseed processing; - Develop case studies, by participating region, proposing a biorefinery scheme for treating lignocellulosic residues "in situ" that can be extrapolated to other by-products and similar regions; - Produce at least 6 products from selected waste streams and respective feasibility studies for the proposed solutions as a result of international collaboration.
