Description of the project:

This Knowledge Alliance on the Development of Products-Services for the Circular Economy and Sustainability in Higher Education, translated into the acronym “KATCH_e”, coordinated by the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology, I.P. (LNEG), will also translate into the development of a multidisciplinary Curricular Unit on design and sustainability for the circular economy applied to academic areas involved in the development of products and services - namely design -, through collaboration between higher education, research institutes and companies. The course will be tested in companies, resulting in case studies, oriented to two sectors: furniture and construction products. All resources will be made available on an online platform.

Objectives:

This project is intended to help designers and other professionals involved in the development of product-services (designers, engineers, marketing professionals, environmental specialists, and business and innovation managers) acquire skills to implement strategies such as the use of resources in waterfall, remanufacturing, reuse, biodegradation, recycling and new business models, namely the replacement of products by services.

Main Activities:

Analysis of training needs, trends and design policies for the circular economy and sustainability; Establishment of a network of stakeholders to support knowledge transfer and ensure post-project activities; Development and testing of a massive open online course and product-service development tools for the circular economy and sustainability; Implementation in academic and business contexts, developing case studies.
