As a basis for drawing up recommendations on the intervention plan and on the materials and techniques to be applied, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, especially with regard to historical and architectural heritage, always begins with the evaluation of materials (such as stone, mortars, concrete, paints, ceramics, metals and wood) and their state of preservation. With its unparalleled archive of information on the physical, chemical and mechanical characterization of materials, deterioration processes and conservation needs, the DB-HERITAGE project presents the preservation of information and historical value of materials as a development and innovation strategy. The preservation and free availability of these data are essential to research and have considerable social benefits stemming from their historical and didactic value.
Objectives:The DB-HERITAGE project aims at: building a repository of historical materials or compiling reference samples; the development of an application for systematic recording of data relating to the history, properties and performance of materials; innovation in the use of materials and methods for their conservation and restoration.
